*X is calculated using an approximation where full-width characters count as 2.
Overview
- Check the character count of text you plan to post to X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, or Threads in real time as you type.
- Compares your text against each service's character limit (X: 280, Instagram: 2200, Threads: 500) and shows the remaining count.
- X has a special rule that counts full-width characters (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc.) as 2 characters, so its count is calculated differently from the other two services.
Usage
- Type the text you want to post into "Input".
- As you type, the character count and remaining count for X, Instagram, and Threads update automatically.
- If you exceed a limit, that service's display is highlighted in red.
Example

- Checking whether an Instagram caption fits within the limit
FAQ
Why is X's character count different from the others?
Under X's official rules, full-width characters such as Japanese, Chinese, and Korean are counted as 2 characters. This tool calculates based on that approximate rule.
Are emoji counted accurately?
Some emoji may be counted differently from X's official method. This tool uses an approximation based on major full-width character ranges, so it may not always match exactly.
How are URLs handled?
On X, a URL included in a post is automatically shortened and counted as a fixed number of characters regardless of its actual length, but this tool counts the URL text exactly as entered.
Notes
- Character counting runs entirely in your browser; the text you enter is never sent externally.
- Each service's character limit may change. Please check each service's official information for the latest exact limit.
