BMI Calculator
Calculate BMI, weight category, and ideal weight from height and weight.
Overview
- Calculates BMI (Body Mass Index) from height and weight.
- In addition to the BMI value, it shows a category based on the WHO (World Health Organization) standard in English display (or the JASSO standard in Japanese display) and an ideal weight based on BMI 22, the value statistically associated with the lowest health risk.
Usage
- Enter values into "Height (cm)" and "Weight (kg)".
- Click "Calculate" to see your BMI, category, and ideal weight.
Example
Input
Height 170cm, weight 65kg
Output
BMI: 22.5 (Normal weight), ideal weight: 63.6kg
Use Cases
- Checking your BMI and weight category based on a health checkup result
- Finding a rough ideal weight target for a diet or weight management plan
- Simulating how BMI changes as you adjust height and weight
FAQ
What formula is used to calculate BMI?
BMI = weight (kg) รท height (m) squared.
What's the difference between the Japanese and WHO standards?
JASSO (Japan Society for the Study of Obesity) divides obesity into 4 levels, while WHO uses 3 classes. The underweight/normal weight thresholds (18.5 and 25) are the same in both.
How is the ideal weight calculated?
It's calculated as 22 ร height (m) squared, based on BMI 22, the value statistically associated with the lowest health risk. This is only a rough guide โ the appropriate weight varies by build and muscle mass.
