Zenkaku / Hankaku Converter

Overview

• Converts between full-width and half-width characters.

• Alphanumeric characters and symbols are converted just by selecting "Full-width → Half-width" or the reverse. Enabling "Also convert katakana" during a "Full-width → Half-width" conversion also converts full-width katakana (including dakuten and handakuten) into half-width katakana.

• When converting from half-width to full-width katakana, half-width katakana with a dakuten mark (e.g., ｶﾞ) is correctly combined into a single full-width katakana character (e.g., ガ).

Usage

1. 1

   Enter the text you want to convert into "Input".

2. 2

   Select "Full-width → Half-width" or the reverse under "Direction".

3. 3

   When "Full-width → Half-width" is selected, enable "Also convert katakana" if needed.

   The converted result is shown in "Output" in real time.

Use Cases

• Unifying a phone number or email address with mixed full-width and half-width characters into half-width

• Converting full-width katakana data into half-width katakana for systems that require it (e.g., receipt printers)

FAQ

Notes

• Katakana with a dakuten or handakuten mark (such as ガ, パ, or ヴ) becomes two characters in half-width form, like "ｶﾞ". Check the character count after conversion if you paste the result into a field with a length limit.

• Characters with no half-width katakana equivalent, such as ヰ and ヱ or the small ヵ and ヶ, become ｲ, ｴ, ｶ, and ｹ. Converting back from half-width to full-width does not restore the original characters.

• Characters such as ￥ (full-width yen sign), 〜 (wave dash), “”, ㈱, and ① are not converted. On the other hand, ～ (full-width tilde) is converted to ~, so results differ by character even when they look alike.
